Neville Duncan holds the B.Sc. & M.Sc. Degrees (University of the West Indies), and Ph.D. from Manchester University, England. He is currently Professor in Government. A Political Scientist, Dr. Duncan has researched and published on Caribbean Government and Politics, political economy, poverty, community empowerment, and non-governmental organizations, and on issues of international relations.
He is the author/editor of nine (9) books or monographs, nine (9) reports, 64 academic articles, several published other research, hundreds of papers and manuscripts, and has supervised 23 Ph.D. or M.Sc. students.
Ongoing research is focussed on Caribbean International Relations issues, Poverty Eradication, Good Governance, Local Government and Community Development. More recent publications include Mechanisms of Impoverishment: The Role of Bretton Woods Institutions and Recommendations of Caribbean NGOs; and Caribbean Integration: The OECS Experience Revisited (as editor).
He has undertaken considerable scholarly work in governance, poverty and community development and has had important consultancies with IDB, World Bank, OAS, UNDP, UNICEF, ECLAC/CDCC, CARICOM, OXFAM, NGOs, among others.
Dr. Duncan has previously been a Head of Department, Vice Dean, Dean and University and has recently acted as the Director of ISER (1996-1997), Mona. He is currently President-Elect for the Caribbean Studies Association for 1999-2000.
His service to the University community has been extensive, having served as chair of major Committees, led the staff trade union, headed the Credit Union, organised many international conferences, and enhanced the reputation of the University through his public service and scholarly activities. He is well-known for his public commentaries on Caribbean Political Economy.
