Brief Bio
Professor Frank Alleyne received
his tertiary education at the University of the West Indies and Erdiston Teachers'
Training College. In 1964 he was awarded a Certificate in Education by the Institute of
Education of the University of the West Indies. Professor Alleyne was awarded the B.A.
Upper Second Class Honours - Economics and History (1967), MSc. Economics (Monetary) 1971,
and the Ph.D. Economics (Agricultural) 1984.Since
joining the University's staff at the level of Research Assistant in 1968, Professor
Alleyne has published two (2) edited volumes of papers dealing with issues in agricultural
policy in the Caribbean; a collection of papers dealing with issues in structural
adjustment and implications for labour in the Caribbean; two monographs, one dealing with
agricultural policy, and the other with Planning. He has published twenty-three papers in
refereed journals. Professor Alleyne has written twelve (12) technical reports, forty-two
peer reviewed papers, and fifty-seven conference papers.
His main research interests are agricultural policy and
social security. In 1993 the government of Barbados awarded Professor Alleyne the Gold
Crown of Merit (third highest national honour) in recognition of his contribution to
Education and development of Social Security in Barbados.
