The Crime and Criminal Justice Research Centre (CCJRC) was
established during the 1995/1996 academic year in the Faculty of
Social Sciences against the background of an intense debate on crime and criminal
justice isues in the Caribbean . Dr. Farley
Brathwaite is Director of the Centre.
Objectives
The main objectives of the Centre are: To mobilize and develop criminological research
interests on the campus and in the wider community; to establish and build a working group
in criminological research on campus; to develop and maintain an active programme of
outreach and continuing education through seminars, workshops, short courses, conferences,
research and publications; to establish strong working relationships with criminological,
and criminal justice agencies in the wider Caribbean society; to establish strong working
relationships at the international level with criminology departments and criminal justice
agencies.
In pursuit of the above listed objectives, the Centre has been in contact with and/or has
established working relationships with several local police forces in the region, the Faculty of Law at Cave Hill, our counterparts at the
Mona and St. Augustine campuses, the Florida State
University School of Criminology and Criminal
Justice, and the University of Toronto Centre of
